INAUGURAL SW DAIRYCARES RAISES $37,500
Southwestern Ontario’s dairy farmers and their industry partners have come together to
raise $37,500 for three local hospitals. Thanks to the inaugural Southwest DairyCares fundraising gala that money will be split between the hospitals in Petrolia, Newbury, and St. Thomas. The fundraising gala, held February 14th, brought together 250 farmers and dairy industry professionals from Elgin, Essex-Kent, Lambton, Middlesex and beyond.
The evening was full of camaraderie and fun, with Jamie O’Shea & Andrew Campbell hosting a live auction, with highlights including $600 butter tarts and $3000 for pie for a year from local dairy farmer, David Johnson. A silent auction raised more than $5000, with donated items ranging from photo sessions to Leafs tickets.
Southwest DairyCares was modeled after a similar initiative in Eastern Ontario, where local dairy producers looked to give back to the local communities that support them and their families.
Essex County dairy farmer, and area director for the Dairy Farmers of Ontario Vicky Morrison felt the evening highlighted the integral role dairy farmers play in their local communities.
“DairyCares gives the dairy community a chance to support our small local
hospitals, a vital link in our healthcare system, all while having a great night out,” Morrison said.
EACH OF THE THREE LOCAL HOSPITALS WILL RECEIVE $12,500. This annual event will move around Southwestern Ontario each year, with the 2025 DairyCares expected to be held in Perth County.
